(John Beckwith, 20th century, American pathologist and Hans Wiedemann, 20th century, German paediatrician), unexplained generalized or focal nonobstructive caliectasis that may be seen in children with Beckwith Wiedemann syndrome (i.e. exomphalos, macroglossia and gigantism). This disorder is considered to be one of the contiguous gene syndromes. Additional findings include calyceal diverticula and small medullary cysts. Wilms tumour (nephroblastoma) is also associated with this condition. CT is gaining in acceptance as the preferred imaging modality for morphological evaluation of the kidney.
